Short Bio
Prof. Evelina Lamma earned her degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1985, followed by her Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1990. She served as an Associate Professor at the University of Udine from 1992 to 1993 and at the University of Bologna from 1993 to 2000. Currently, she is a Full Professor in the Department of Engineering (DE) at the University of Ferrara, where she teaches courses in Artificial Intelligence and Foundations of Computer Science. She coordinated the Ph.D. program at the DE from 2003 to 2007 and was the coordinator for a bachelor’s and two master’s degree programs in ICT and Computer Science Engineering from 2007 to 2015. From 2015 to 2018, she was appointed as the Rector’s Delegate for Teaching.
Prof. Lamma’s research centers on artificial intelligence, covering theoretical, implementation, and applied aspects. Her work has significantly advanced knowledge representation and reasoning, computational logic, logic programming, multi-agent systems, decision support systems, ontologies, and machine learning. She has developed innovative algorithms and reasoning tools applied in complex domains, including systems for probabilistic reasoning and learning at UNIFE (ml.unife.it). She has authored over 230 international publications and served on program committees for numerous national and international conferences. She was program co-chair of the 29th International Conference on Logic Programming (ICLP 2013) and of the Italian Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 1999 and 2015. Her achievements include the KSEM 2010 Highly Commended Paper Award and the RR 2013 Best Paper Award.
Prof. Lamma has actively contributed to organizing international events and has delivered invited talks and tutorials at conferences such as ICLP 1994 and ICLP 2015. She has participated in numerous national (Progetti Finalizzati and PRIN MIUR) and international (EU) research projects, with applications in computational logic, artificial intelligence, and clinical fields.
